Bahārāt (baharat)
Bahārāt (baharat)
Bahārāt is a spice mixture that is used in the Middle East as well as in other Arab cuisines, including North Africa.
It is believed that bahārāt originated because the nomadic Bedouins added new herbs and spices to their spice mixtures whenever they encountered them. As a result, there is not just one bahārāt, but many variations of this spice mixture circulate in the Arab world, each with a slightly different 'touch', but basically with the same ingredients. A related mixture is fulful bhrat, which is used in the preparation of Kibbeh.
The mixture is typical of the entire Mashriq, which are the Arabic-speaking countries east of Libya, and of Turkish and Kurdish cuisine. Outside of that, we see a simple Bahārāt in Tunisia, one of the countries in the Maghreb, which consists only of dried rose buds, cinnamon and black pepper.
In Turkey, bahārāt is used to season kofte and pilafs, and mint is added for this reason. In the countries on the Persian Gulf, saffron and dried black lime (loomi) are also added.
The following ingredients are used in a Bahārāt:
- pull biber
- black pepper and/or
- long pepper
- coriander seed
- clove
- allspice
- cinnamon
- green cardamom
- rose petals

Our packaging
Our packaging
We supply this product in a practical twist-off jar (clear glass) of 128ml and in bags. For smaller quantities we use laminated stand-up pouches with ziplock closure, made of PET and PE. The bag is approximately 90% recyclable and is collected with the plastic.
Our two-layer bio-based kraft bags consist of a layer of 60 gram kraft paper and 80 micron PLA plastic. This bag is 100% biodegradable, and can go in the green bin.
We use our aluminum bags for packaging larger quantities. These three-layer bags are made of laminated 12 micron PET, 7 micron aluminum and 60 micron PE. This combination makes it impossible to fully recycle the bags. These bags should be offered with the other waste.
The test tubes are made of PS plastic, have a diameter of 16 millimeters, and a length of 100 millimeters. The caps are made of LDPE.
