Collection: Anacardiaceae (cashew family)

This plant family - also called the wig tree family, grows mainly in tropical and subtropical areas. Most species originate from tropical America, Africa and India and India, a single species, such as the pistachio from southern Europe.

Under the  plant species that are important for our food include fruit-bearing Anacardium occidentale (cashew) Mangifera indica (mango) and Schinus (pink peppercorn), and the Pistacia lentiscus, from which the wonderfully scented resin (mastic) is tapped.

We sell two varieties of 'pink pepper berry' from this family, the Brazilian and the Peruvian, with the same spiciness,  thanks to the carvacrol in the seed. The Brazilian pepper berry is somewhat fuller in colour and sweeter than the Peruvian, which in contrast has a delicious 'sourness'.

In  March 2023 we have the sale of Chios mastiha stopped, forced to do so by  the highly variable interest. With pain in the heart, it is and remains a fantastic product.
