Advieh berenj, or simply advieh, is a spice mixture that is mainly used in rice dishes. It is a classic Persian spice mixture that has different compositions, such as the Indian garams and the Moroccan ras-el-hanouts.

This advieh berenj is a variation on the famous adviehs of the highlands, to which pistachios and saffron are usually added. In the considered standard of classical Persian cuisine, The legendary cuisine of Persia Margaret Shaida gives the following classic recipe:

  • green cardamom
  • pistachios
  • black pepper
  • cinnamon
  • saffron
  • rose petals and
  • some sugar

The use of rose petals originates from the northwest of the country and the Persian plateau. This advieh mixture gives rice dishes a characteristic aroma when the advieh is sprinkled over the rice grains while the rice is steaming (!)

Smell and taste

Our advieh berenj follows the classic recipe, except that a warm accent is added in the form of nutmeg. Saffron and pistachios are missing - often already included in the recipe - but can of course be added to your own taste.  The aromas of this advieh are best enjoyed when prepared as described above. while steaming the rice is added, and not, as is often suggested, used as a topping for steamed rice, as you do with a Japanese furikake, although that is of course possible.

Suggestions for use:

Our packaging

We supply this product in a practical twist-off jar (clear glass) of 128ml and in bags. For smaller quantities we use laminated stand-up pouches with ziplock closure, made of PET and PE. The bag is approximately 90% recyclable and is collected with the plastic.

Our two-layer bio-based kraft bags consist of  a layer of 60 gram kraft paper and 80 micron PLA plastic. This bag is 100% biodegradable, and can go in the green bin.

We use our aluminum bags for packaging larger quantities. These three-layer bags are made of laminated  12 micron PET, 7 micron aluminum  and  60  micron PE.  This combination makes it impossible to fully recycle the bags. These bags should be offered with the other waste.

The test tubes are made of PS plastic, have a diameter of 16 millimeters, and a length of 100 millimeters. The caps are made of LDPE.
